It was a sweet thing to see Nolan welcomed home after a year-long deployment in Afghanistan! The Freeport Flag Ladies waited at the door of Linda Bean’s Maine Kitchen & Topside Tavern to shake Nolan’s hand and thank him for his military service.

What a wonderful day in Freeport, Maine looking at wedding rings!
(and how Brown Goldsmiths saved my ring)

I met up with Amber & Kathryn (of Sweetest Thing Weddings Event, Floral & Design) at Brown Goldsmiths. The visit/tour was part of Nolan and Laura’s prize package as the winning contestants of The 2011 Real Maine Wedding of the Year! Nolan & Laura’s task = choose 3 wedding bands they love…and then the online voting begins. (the public makes the final wedding ring selection for the couple!!)

I have my fingers crossed tight that the “make your own” wedding ring will win. There is a studio on the second floor with all sorts of tiny tools and big gadgets AND it is open to any couple
who wish to make their very own wedding rings in Maine…

…not just “design” but actually put on an apron and with your very own hands “make” a ring!!!

While we were looking around, Brown Goldsmiths‘ offered to clean our jewelry…I happily passed my ring over…and thank goodness I did! I had three loose diamonds! They saved my ring’s day. Thank You!!!

For the past few years I have been itching to ditch my office (and all of the paperwork associated with it) but I just could not tear myself away from photographing weddings…being a wedding photographer looks like a carefree easy job, but I will tell you that there are a shocking number of hats. That is why I literally jumped up and down when I saw that Stacey was ready to expand her studio and grow a team that included adding an additional wedding photographer. I wrote her an email immediately that said “pick me!!”…and she did!!!!

My obsession = photographing weddings

The thorn in my side = office work

My dream = to only be a photographer

My dream come true = Stacey Kane Studio!!

Bye Bye long nights of editing photographs!

Yesterday, at The Harraseeket Inn, Real Maine Weddings announced the winning couple for the 2011 “Real Maine Wedding of the Year contest”! Laura & Nolan!!!

I am so excited to be one of the vendors who will play a part in this fairytale wedding!!

To enter the contest, each couple had to submit a 2 minute video…here is the video Laura & Nolan submitted:


Four couples nervously waited for the contest winner to be announced. Laura was standing alone because Nolan is currently in Afghanistan (expected to return in June or July). Just as things were getting started Nolan’s niece ran up to give Laura a good luck hug and then would not leave Laura’s side…it was so sweet! It was such an emotionally charged moment. Melanie Brooks, editor of Real Maine Weddings, read down a list of wedding vendors and some of the details which will be part of the October 21, 2011 wedding…then she announced that Laura & Nolan had won the $100K prize!!! The other three couples gave hugs and kind words of congratulations. Laura stepped up to the podium to give a huge thank you and several interviews with media. Something that came as a surprise to me, each of the other three finalists also received a prize…a honeymoon package!

I love being a mom…I love seeing my boys (Evan 10 & Zeb 5) grow and try new things. I love those quite moments (sometimes for only a literal second) and the silly ones (often for hours at a time :)~

Over the past years I have observed those moments, taking a mental photograph and storing it as a memory. Taking an actual photograph would mean carrying a camera, often not a practical option for me…for example: carrying a camera while teaching Zeb how to ride a bike = hahahahahahahahaaaa ha, funny!

{que some sort of taking over the world music} Then along comes the iphone… While I know they are threatening to take over the world, I am forever grateful for my iphone’s sneaky little built in camera.
At long last I can photograph the tiny moments that I live for as a mom.
I treasure them.
The expression.
The light.
Letting my kids be in their own moment without a big lens waiting for them to do something cute.

So iphone, i love love love you!

…and someday I will find a brave couple who will let me photograph their entire wedding with my iphone…any takers?

:: Isle au Haut Wedding : Part 1 ::

I woke up this morning thinking about this wedding…from 2003!!!

Begin PART 1…
This wedding took place on a medium sized island (by Maine standards) off of the coast of Maine. If you were a crow and you flew out to sea very very far, it seems to me that you could reach Isle au Haut at about the same time if you left from either Camden, Maine or Bass Harbor, MT. Dessert Island, Maine (AKA: Acadia National Park).

On my drive to Stonington, Maine to meet the ferry I made a quick stop to pick up the lovely flowers from florist Pam Polk. Flowers & Cameras in hand, under arm, and over my shoulder, I hopped onto the Ferry. The boat ride took a little less than an hour (I am like, 99% sure of that statement…but am 100% sure that is how my brain recalls this 8 year old memory!) The entire ferry ride was Gorgeous! Bald Eagles, the view of several fishing villages from the waters edge, sail boats, crashing waves…and on my return trip The Moon!

While looking for these photographs I found so many other weddings I have not yet shared… But first,

This was the sweetest moment during the “fashion show”…this little girl was so shy and then at the end of the runway she glanced up at the “bride” for a reassuring nod, lifted her little chin high, put her hand on her hip, and struck a pose…Everyone cheered and clapped!

…the wedding mentioned was a unique collaboration which included MANY vendors… just the documentation alone was intense :D 4 photographers (as mentioned above), 1 videographer, a New York Times photographer, & a television news camera…that is a lot of elbows! As I was editing the photographs I came across this funny snapshot of all of the photographers in the background…it made me laugh and remember our adventure…the perfect comic relief, when there were still thousands of photographs to edit!!

:: Vesper Hill Children’s Chapel ::

Vesper Hill Children’s Chapel ~ Rockport, Maine:

:: This outdoor chapel is perched on top of an exposed rock ledge. It has ocean views and is surrounded by well kept flower gardens and mature trees. A perfect Maine location for an intimate wedding ceremony. The wooden chapel is painted dark brown with matching wooden benches. The benches are free standing and can be moved as needed. One of my favorite features of this little chapel is the stone floor.

There are beautiful stone stairs leading up to the chapel on the left and right sides of the huge rock ledge. Trees overhead create a romantic tunnel above each set of stairs. Just outside the chapel is an old bell…it is tradition to give it a ring just after your wedding ceremony!

As you arrive, the driveway makes a lovely little loop (perfect for an elegant entrance) and the natural stone path leads you through a wooden arch, past several little flower gardens and up the stone stairs on the left side of the rock ledge.

The Vesper Hill Children’s Chapel can be rented for 2 hours. In my opinion the chapel holds 30-40 guests…however they say it seats 50 and I have seen 100 before squeeze inside and peer through the windows around the edges! For more information contact Merryspring Nature Park in Camden at 236-2239. It is open mid-April to the end of October. ::
